All of the dragons declare themselves " ;out&qu ot; and back in the studio, Richar d concludes that for the P45 to be put in pr oduc tion, Jeremy would have to b e dead. 149 S eries 19, Episode 2 3 February 2 013 Mi ck Flee twood Challe nge, Part 1: In another challenge, the presenters picked three super cars to take on an epic race. Si nce it was H ammond& #39;s turn to sele ct the ch allenge locat ion, the tea m went to the West ern United States. Jeremy select ed the Le xus LFA, Ja mes chose the new A ston Martin Vanq uish, and Richard took the SRT Viper. Af ter a b rief drive in the Ne vada desert, the trio headed to Las Vegas Moto r Speedway, specifically the drag strip , to compet e in drag r aces organized by the L as Vegas Police Department; who m organize d it with t he theory t hat allowing people to drag race, legally, at a closed circuit, woul d prevent street racing. Despite the high per formance of their cars, the trio were beaten by modified production cars , and 4WD car s, in eac h of their dr ag races . News: Jeremy co mes up wi th a solutio n on how to solve the crisis affecting Britain's town ce ntres: sacking all traffic wardens and re moving double yellow lines. The trio th en review a Chinese product design ed to stop drowsiness behind the wheel, be fore they to ok a fir st look at t he 2013 J aguar F-Type. They prais ed its styling, but cri ticize d its high price tag of £60,00 0, as well as its t arget audience . In the end, James w on the challeng e by be ing hit only 17 times. St ar in a Reasonabl y Priced Car: Fleetw ood Mac' ;s Mi ck Fleetwood drove the Kia Cee' ;d aro und the Test Tra ck with a lap of 1:45. 4. C hallenge, Part 3: Departin g Willow Springs, the gro up headed fo r Los Angeles, Califor nia. In or der to do &qu ot;real world" tes ting, Ri chard devised a c hallenge to see who could burn the best elevens. Th e three instead ended up drawin g a phallus and left LA. The team then sta yed for a ni ght in Palm Springs. Ho wever, the pr oduc ers gave the m a final challenge. The th ree w ould drive from Palm Springs to the M exican b order at Calexico the following morning, and t he last to make it to the M exican border would have to travel into the country itself to drive th e Mastretta MXT, a Mexican spo rts car ma de fun of by the presenters in an earl ier series, for a lat er segmen t on the sho w. In revenge for taki ng them to America , Je remy and James sabotaged Hammond9;s Viper, causing him to lose 1 0 mi nutes in t he race. D espite making a stop for fuel, Jerem y made it to the finish li ne first, with James in second. Richa rd then walked to the border being the last perso n to arri ve. At the studio, Jam es a nd Jeremy end by saying that the Vip er wa s aw ful and that the Vanquish and LFA were amaz ing. 150 Seri es 19, Episode 3 10 Fe brua ry 2013 Am y Macdonald Review: Jeremy reviews the T oyota GT86 and the Subaru BRZ. T he cars are a lmost ident ical, but Jeremy prefers the Toy ota GT86. The Stig the n completed a lap of the Test Track in 1:31:3. News: They dis cuss t he new Subaru Impreza, which is not co ming to UK, and th ey th en talk a bout the new Maserati Quattroporte. Chal lenge, Part 1: The producers have reserve d a single ticket to a foo tball matc h at the S an S iro in Milan, Nor thern Italy. The trio have a race from Wembley Stadium to the San Siro. Jeremy drives the Shelby Must ang GT500 and Richard and J ames travel on public transport. Similar to the previ ous race to Monte C arlo, Richar d and James are not allowed to u se any cars, and Jeremy is not a llowed to use any trains. According t o Jeremy, since the last e pic ra ce, the trains have become faster and boat s have be come slower. Richard an d James opened up a big lead wh ilst travelling on the Eurosta r, and arr ive in Paris while Jeremy was still crossing the Engli sh Cha nnel on a fe rry. After reaching Franc e, J eremy discovers that the Mus tang only holds 50 li tres in its fue l tank. After leav ing Paris, Ri chard and James discuss what to do upon arriving in Mi lan — as th ere are two of them but only one ti cket. Hundreds of miles behind, Jeremy ends pa rt 1 of the challenge sta ting out lo ud, &q uot;I'm gonna lo se!"; Star in a Reasonabl y Price d Car: Amy Macdonald drove the Kia Cee'd a round the Te st Track in 1:44.4. D uring one of her pract ice runs, Am y acciden tally des troyed one o f the runway lights, which Jeremy giv es to her after reve aling the la p ti me. C hallenge, Pa rt 2: The high spe ed TGV slowed down as it approached the mountains that sur round Northern Italy. Jeremy bega n to catc h up and was nearly neck and neck with the t rain, unti l road wo rks at the Mont Blanc Tunnel slow him down. The train starts to accelerate ag ain and reaches Northern Italy ahead of Jeremy. Richar d and James use a tube network to get to the streets ne ar the f inish line . James m aintains his oppositio n to run on television and Richard runs off a lone to f ind the finish line, which is at a bar i n the IM Villa Veuve Cli equot. James then assemble d a bike which he had hid den in one of his ba gs and ride s to the bar, only to find that Richard i s already there and ha s won th e race a nd t he ticket to the footba ll match. Review: Jeremy tests the all new Kia Cee 9;d, putting i t through a myriad o f strange road tests. Jerem y demonstrates the complexit y of modern cars' dshboard. Richa rd brings a Fiat Mu ltipla and both modify it. Jere my breaks the dashboar d and re places it consid ering it to be too complicated for elders. Richard ask s for the airbags s aying tha t it is dan gerous for the elderly who are as de licate as children, an d that he needs it for a safety feature. Jeremy make s a spee dometer which reads 20 mph at the to p speed, he also uses an old design switch for rear fog light which does nothing. Jeremy installs a pet-cage and replaces the back seat with high seat chairs a nd the F iat badge with a Ro ver one. T hey paint it in bei ge after observing th e shade of a hearing aid. Richard uses water-re sistant fabric as seat cover s, and whil e stitching hurt s hi s eye. They complete the car and end the part 1 with Richard wearing h eavy bandages over his le ft eye. News: Volks wagen will launc h GTI version of the new Go lf and GT version o f Up w ill be launched. Kia will launch the Pro Ce e'd GT. The M ini Pace man is launched, an d the trio m ock the front end of the car, claiming that it looks depr essing. The trio agree th at the British are the be st drivers. Alf a-Romeo releases photographs of the G loria, in which the trio make fun of it' s name. Richa rd had a rrived late so James and Jeremy had att empted to play ten nis with car s (whic h has a l ot of editin g). R eview: James reviews t he new Range Rover in L ondon. The new car is completely r edesigned, 400 kg l ighter due to Aluminium body, has active suspe nsion, new gearbox, minimalist dashboard and offers better comfort. James then race s it against TerraMax at Nevada Auto motive Test Cen tre, Nevada. The race was t o a hill 10 mile across, passing through rocky terra in, hillock, mud, river and sand -tracks. TerraMax was switched to drone mode during the race to deflate the tyres and take a short-cut. Th e Range Ro ver's automatic Terr ain Respon se S ystem i s demonstrated. James take s a long er route to asc end t he hill but still wins the race. At t he studio, the trio cons ider the dr iver less cars to be not very practi cal. He drove over grassy patch in the last corner but man ages to keep the car under control. Challe nge, Part 2 : Jeremy a nd Richard roa d-test thei r car at Christchurch, Dorset. The car has large front bumpers made up of foam, large rear-vie w mirror s, squea king ball u nder the brak e-pe dal, large magnifying -glass on the dashboard, sat nav (vo iced by Richard Briers) wi th only four d estin atons. The car has an artificial cat on the roof which later fell over on t he way of Bingo ha ll. Richard later sh ows his system to find the location of parked car (the car activates a flare and the n releases a balloon). Jeremy shows that t he radio only plays Horse of the Year Sh ow them e on a loop, which both later find to be irre sistible to clap along. The name of the car is revealed to be The James. The y pick up three elderly ladies from a pensioners&# 39; ho me for road-testin g an d drive them to a bowlin g club where it is shown that Richard fitted the airbag at th e rear for parking assi st which inflates the airbag on close pro ximity. Jeremy and Richard buy food for picnic , cho osing only British foods. They attach the shopping trolley to Tow hitch and head for picnic. The roof of the car leaks as it rain s. Jeremy and Ri chard end up choosing a p icnic spot on roadside where they f ind the t rolley to be d amag ed during reversing and the food t o be soaked, howe ver they ate th e food which was not rui ned. The ne xt da y both leave Christch urch an d Jeremy shows his system to prevent the car from being driven on the wrong side of the ro ad, the car in itially so unds alarm and lat er th e tyres, doors and other parts of the car explo de which stop s the car and renders it immobile. At t he studio, James considers the heater to be complicate d, th e trio thank Richa rd Briers and anno unce the Africa special. 153 Series 19, Ep isode 6 3 March 20 13 No Guest First of the two-episod e Af rica Special, taking place in Africa. The episode was shot in 2012. Challenge, P art 1: Buy used esta te cars for up to £1 ,500 in Britain and report at a small village in rural Uganda. Jeremy arr ives in a BMW 528i Touring, Richard in a Subaru Impreza WRX Estate and James in a Volvo 850 R Wagon. The challenge is to fin d the true source of the ri ver Nile. They set off an dis cover that explorin g isn9;t as difficult as first thou ght when they g o on a nice easy drive a nd find Lake Victor ia, of whom the Victorian Explorers thought was the source of the Nile. H owev er they are then told that it is not the actual source of the Ni le and there were two other dispute d location s for i t, one in Rw anda and o ne in Burundi. However, Jeremy Clarkson insis ted that bot h of these locations were wrong and decided to head west to wards Lake Edward to see whethe r there was a link bet ween that lake and Lake Kivu in Rwanda. In t heir jour ney west, where they visit the E ntebbe Airport and from there see the For d Scorpio Estate back-up car. The y continue into Kampala, Uganda 9;s Capital City where they get held up in a tra ffic jam overnight, the m ost hurren dous traffic t hey'd ever s een. T hey con tinue on well-mainta ined highways west finding their trip incredibly easy before reach ing th e town of M barar a in the southwest of the coun try, v ia a stop in Jezza, a village i n Mpigi District . Here they stay in a di sgusting hotel, after driv ing through tea plantat ions in an attemp t to d iscover a lovely tea house h otel, whic h in the mind of Richard, was bound to found due to tea p rogrammes he'd seen. In Mbarara t hey stayed in the Eco nomic Lodge with Jeremy having a bed with faeces o n it. They left the hot el disgu sted before Richard has the i dea to ma ke th e cars ' ;hotel s'. James modifies his Volvo by adding a library, Richard adds a cooker and Jer emy adds a coffin. T he coffin h e uses to put his clothes in, he sleeps on Egyptian Cot ton. They l eave for Lake Edward, ca mping o vernig ht there beca use of i ts beauty before heading in search of the river heading for Lake Kivu. None of the riv ers connect the lake as they al l head east rathe r than south. They give up, leaving t hem disa ppointe d. Then Jeremy looks at a map and discovers th e source of the Nile must be on t he other side o f Lake Victoria. His reasonin g is that the Mediterranean Sea is effect ively an i nland sea and so G ibraltar is the t rue mout h of the Nile, rather than Alexandria in E gypt. After discovering t his they de cide that they m ust drive strai ght to the other side o f Lake Vi ctoria to get to th e southe ast coast in Tan zania near the Serengeti.
