Also, the rally team composed of war amputees (previously mentioned in serie s 17, episode 6) finally completed thei r challenge of fi nishing the 2013 Dak ar Rally. Review: Ja mes reviews the ne w Bentley C ontine ntal GT, and notes t he new engine and subtle ride characteristics. Believing that the Bentley, with four wheel drive system and a big, powerful engine, can handle thi ngs worse than a Welsh countryside road, James takes the car onto a Welsh sta ge of the World Rall y Championship, with Kris Meek e behind the wheel, a nd James bei ng the co-driver. Desp ite t he car havi ng less grip, more weight, a n electronic han dbrake (unsuitable for usage on a rally stage) and Jam es not being pro ficient at giving pace notes, the Bent ley was a ctually f aster than o ne o f the ful l WRC cars. All of the d ragon s declare themselves "out" and back in the studio, Richard concludes that for the P45 to be put in production, Jeremy would have to be dead. 149 Series 19, Episode 2 3 Fe bruary 20 13 Mick Fleetwood Challenge, Part 1: In anot her challenge, the presenters picke d three super cars to take o n an e pic race. Since it was Hammond' ;s turn to select the challenge locati on, the team went to the Western United St ates. Jere my selected th e Lexus L FA, James chose the new Aston Martin V anquish, and Richard too k the SRT Viper. After a brief drive in the Neva da desert, the trio head ed to Las Vegas Motor Spe edway, specifically the drag strip, to compete in drag races organized by the Las Vegas Police Department; whom organized it with the theory that allowing people to drag race, legally, at a closed circuit, w ould preve nt street racing. Despite the h igh performance of their cars, t he trio w ere beaten b y modified production cars, and 4WD c ars, in each of their d rag races. News: Jeremy comes up with a solution on how to solve the cris is affecting Britain& #39;s tow n centres: sacking all traffi c warde ns and removing double ye llow li nes. The trio th en review a Chine se product d esigned to s top drowsiness behind the wheel, befor e they took a first look at the 2013 Jaguar F-Type. Th ey praised its styling , but critic ized its high price tag of £60, 000, as well as its targe t audience. In the end, James won the chall enge b y being hit only 17 t imes. Star in a R easonabl y Pric ed Car : Fleetwood Mac 39;s Mic k Flee twood drove the Kia Cee'd around the Test Track wi th a lap of 1:45.4. Cha lleng e, Part 3: De parting Willow Springs, the gro up headed for L os An geles, Califor nia. In order to do "real worl d" testing, R ichar d devised a challeng e to see w ho could burn the best elevens. Th e three inst ead ended up drawing a phallus an d left LA. The team then stay ed for a night in Palm Springs. However, the prod ucer s gave t hem a final challenge. The three would drive from Palm Springs to the Mexican border at Calexi co th e follow ing morning, and the last to make i t to the Mexican border wo uld have to travel into the coun try itself to driv e the Mastr etta MXT, a Mexican sports car made fun of by the presenters in an earlie r series, for a la ter se gment o n the show. In revenge for tak ing them to America, Jeremy and James sabot aged Hammond39;s Viper, causing him to lose 10 mi nutes in the race . Despite making a stop for fuel, Jerem y made it to the finish line first, with James in secon d. R ichard then walked to the bord er be ing the last p erson to arrive. At th e studio, James and Jer emy end by saying that the V iper was awful and that the V anquish and LFA were amaz ing. 1 50 Series 19, Episode 3 10 February 2 013 Am y Macdonald Review: Jeremy reviews the Toyota GT86 and the Subaru BRZ. The c ars a re almost identical, but Jeremy prefers the Toyo ta GT86. The Stig then comple ted a lap of the Test Track in 1: 31:3. News : They discuss the new Subaru Impre za, w hich is not coming to U K, and they the n talk about t he new Maserati Qu attroport e. Ch allenge, Part 1: The produ cers have reserved a single ticket to a f ootball ma tch at the S an Siro in Milan, Northern I taly. The t rio hav e a race from We mbley Stadium to the San Siro. Jeremy drives t he Shelby Mustang GT500 an d Richard and James t ravel on public transport. Similar to the prev ious race to Monte Carlo, Richa rd and James are not allowed to use an y cars, and Jeremy is not allowed to use a ny tr ains. A ccording to Jeremy, since the last epic race, the trains have become faster and bo ats have become slower. R ichar d and James o pened up a big lea d whilst trav elling on the Eurostar, and a rriv e in Pari s while Jer emy was still crossing the English Channel on a ferry. After reachi ng France, Jeremy dis covers tha t the Mustang onl y holds 50 litres in its fuel tank. Aft er leav ing Paris, Richard and James discuss what to do upon arriving in Milan — a s there are two of them but only one ticket. Hundreds of mi les behind, Jeremy ends part 1 of the challenge s tating out loud, " I'm gonna lose!" S tar in a Rea sonably Priced Car: Amy Macdo nald drove the Kia Cee'd around the Test Track in 1:44.4. During one of her pract ice run s, Amy accidentally destroyed one of the run way lights, wh ich Jeremy gives to h er after r evea ling the lap time. Chall enge, Part 2: T he high speed TGV slowe d down as it ap proac hed the mountains that surround Northern Italy. Jeremy began to cat ch up and wa s near ly neck an d neck with the train, until road works at the Mont Blanc Tunnel slow him d own. The train starts to a ccelerate again a nd reaches Northern I taly ahead of Jeremy. Richard and James use a tube network to get to the s treets near the finish line . James maintains his opposition to run on television and Richar d runs off alone to find the finish l ine, whic h is a t a bar in the IM Villa Veuve Clie quot. James then assemb led a bike which he had hid den in one of his bags and ri des to the bar, only to find that Richard is a lrea dy there and has w on the race and th e ticket to the footbal l match. Mom ents later, J eremy a rrived and accepted defeat for the f irst time ev er in an epi c race of all the series. 151 Series 19, Episode 4 17 Februa ry 2013 Lewis Hamilton Review: Jeremy reviews the Vauxhall Astra VX R, Ford Focus ST and Renault Me gane Renault Sport Cup. The Stig did laps of each car, the Focus being the sl owest at 1:29.6, the Astra VXR at 1:28.3, and the Megane in 1: 27.7. Despite this, Jeremy chose the Astra V XR as the best overall car of the three. News: They discuss the newe st cars, such as the Alfa Romeo 4C, the next ge neration Ford Mustang would be sold in Great Brita in, but th e UK version would com e with a 2.0 Ec oBoost en gine, and the impor tance of the handb rake t urn in "male devel opment". Review: Jeremy tests t he all new Ki a Cee'd, putt ing it through a myriad of strange road tests. I ncluding Mat t Le Blanc doing a lap w ith both th e old and new Cee'd, Bru ce Willis (in character as John McClane) testing the horn of the Cee'd , Eric Clapton testing its auxiliary input jack, and Jeremy testing the Cee 39;d's self parallel parking feat ure. Jeremy demons trates the complexity of modern cars' dshboard. Richard brings a Fiat Mult ipla and both mod ify it. Jeremy b reaks t he d ashboard and replaces it co nsidering it to be too complic ated for elders. Richar d ask s for the airbags saying th at it is dangerous f or the elderly who a re as delica te as children, and tha t he needs it fo r a sa fety feature. Jeremy makes a spe edometer wh ich read s 20 mph at the top speed, he also uses an old design switch for rear fog li ght which does nothin g. Jerem y installs a pe t-cage and replaces the back seat with high se at chairs and th e Fiat badg e with a Rover on e. They pai nt it in beige after observing the sh ade of a hearing a id. Ri chard uses water-r esistant fabric as seat covers, and while stitching hurt s his eye. They co mplete the car and end the part 1 with Richard we aring heavy bandage s over his left eye. News: Volkswagen will l aunch GTI version of the new Golf a nd GT version of Up wi ll be launched. Kia will launch the Pro C ee'd GT. The Mini Pa ceman is launch ed, and the trio m ock the front e nd of the c ar, claiming that it l ooks depressing. The trio agree that the British a re the be st drivers . Alfa-Rome o rele ases pho tographs of the Glo ria, in wh ich the trio make fun of it& #39;s name. Richard had arrived late so James and J eremy had attempted to play te nnis with cars (which has a lo t of editing). Revie w: Jame s reviews the new Range Ro ver in London. The new c ar i s completely redesigned, 4 00 kg ligh ter due to Aluminium bo dy, has active suspension, new ge arbox, minimalist da shboard and offe rs better comfort. James then races it against TerraM ax at Nevad a Automot ive Test Cen tre, Nevada. The race was to a hill 10 mile across, passing through rocky terrai n, hilloc k, mud, rive r and sand-tracks. TerraMax w as swi tched to d rone mode during the race to deflate the tyres and take a short-cut. The Range Rover& #39;s au tomatic Te rrain Resp onse System is demonstra ted. Jame s takes a l onger route to ascen d the hi ll but stil l win s the race. At the studio, the trio consider the driverless cars to b e not very pr actical. The c ar has large front bump ers made up of f oam, la rge rear-view mirrors, sque aking ball under the brake-pedal, large magnifyi ng-glass on the dashboard, sat nav (voiced by Richard Briers) with only four destinatons. The c ar has a n art ificial ca t on the ro of which later fell over on the way of Bingo hall. Richard later shows his system to find the location of park ed car (the car activates a flare and then relea ses a balloo n). Jeremy shows that the radio only plays Horse of the Y ear Show theme on a lo op, which both later find to be ir resistib le t o clap alon g. The name of the ca r is revealed to b e The James . They pi ck up three elde rly ladies from a pensioners' home for road-t esting and drive them to a bowl ing club wher e it is shown that Richard fitted the airbag at the rear for parki ng assi st which i nfla tes the ai rbag on clos e proximity. Jeremy and Ric hard buy food for picni c, choosing only Britis h foods. They attach t he shoppin g trolley to Tow hitch and head for picnic. The roof of the c ar leaks as it rains. Jeremy an d Richard end up choosing a picnic spot on roadsid e where they find the trolley to be damaged during r eversing and the food to be s oaked , howeve r they ate the food w hich was not ruined. The n ext day both leave Christchurch and Jeremy shows his system to p revent the car from bei ng dr iven on the wrong side of the road , th e car initially sounds a larm and later the tyres, doors and oth er pa rts of the c ar ex plode whic h stops the car and renders it i mmobil e. At the studio, James consid ers the heater to be complicated , the trio thank Richard Briers and announce the Africa special. 153 Series 19, Episode 6 3 March 2013 No Guest First of the two-e pisode Af rica Special , taking p lace in Africa . The ep isode was shot in 2012. Challen ge, Part 1: Buy used e state cars for up to £1,500 in Britain and report at a small village in rural Uganda. Jeremy arri ves in a BMW 528i T ouring, Richard i n a Subaru I mpreza WR X Estate a nd James in a Vo lvo 850R Wag on. The challenge is to fin d the true sou rce of the river Nile. They set off an d iscover th at exploring isn 39;t as difficult a s first thought when they go on a nice easy drive and find Lake Victoria, of whom the Victorian Explorers thought was the so urce of the Nile. How ever they ar e then told that it is not th e actu al source of the Nile and there were two other disputed locat ions for it , one in R wanda and one in Burundi. However, Jer emy Clarkson insis ted that both of th ese locations were wrong and decided to head west towards Lake Edward to se e whether there wa s a link be tween that l ake an d Lake Kivu in R wanda. In the ir jo urney west, where they visit the Ente bbe Airport and from there see th e Ford Scorpio Estate back-up car. They continue into Kampala, U ganda's Capital City w here they get hel d up i n a traffic jam overnight, the most hurrendous tra ffic they& #39;d ever seen. They continue on well-m aintained hi ghways west finding t heir trip incred ibly easy bef ore re aching the to wn of Mba rara in the south west of the country, via a stop in Je zza, a village in Mpigi District. Here they stay in a disgusting hotel, after driving th rough tea pl antations i n an attem pt to discover a lovely teahouse hotel, whic h in the min d of Richard, w as bound t o found due to tea prog rammes h e'd seen. In Mbara ra they sta yed i n the Econom ic Lod ge with Jeremy having a bed with faeces on it . The y left the h otel disg usted befo re Richa rd has the idea to make the cars 9;hotels';. James modifies his Volvo by a dding a libra ry, Richard adds a cooker and J eremy adds a coffin. The coffin he uses to put his clothes i n, he sl eeps on E gypti an Cotton. They leave for Lak e Edward, ca mping ov ernight there because of its be auty b efore heading in sear ch of the river headin g for Lake Kivu . None of the rivers connect the lake as th ey all head east rather than south. They give up, leavin g them disa ppointed. Then Jeremy lo oks at a map and disc overs the source of the Nile must be on the other side of Lake Vict oria . His reasoning is that the Med iterran ean Se a is effectively an inland sea and so Gib raltar is t he true mou th of the Nile, rather than A lexandria in Egy pt. A fter disco vering this they deci de that they must drive straight to the other s ide of Lak e Victor ia to get to the sout heas t coast in Tanz ania near the Sere ngeti.
