The wo rkers of a self-managed tea factory decide to go agai nst the grain and play by their ow n rules. The problem is, h ow can yo u plan, wor k and survive in a world driven by ruthless competit ion? One day at a time, for instance . In a world ruled by profit an d dominated by t he exp loita tion of the weaker ones, the film lit erally offers an alternative set o f ways about how to think our f uture and the means and tools to work for it. It is not an easy job but, as Taste of Hope carefully and precisely shows, there is still a lot tha t can be done if we change ou r relation ship to pro duction and labor. Instead of ma king grand gestures or political s tateme nts, the film maker works wi th the camera and with a thoughtf ul edit ing in order to understand how t o weave to gether new possi bilities of communal existence. The result is a superbly crafted observational exercise. A little manual of self-defense and resistance in t he face o f a ne oliberalism that wishes for workers to keep their heads do wn.
