Zdenuk Mahler, who would later work on Forman' ;s examinat ion M ozart Amadeus, worked on the script. The director Evald Sch orm (1929-1988) was one of th e most original member s of the Czec h "New Wave" . During the "norma lization" era, Sc horm spent many years una ble to direct. Hi s last film, Kil ling wi th Kindness (1988) was only made in the twilight years of Communism. During that period when he was unable to direct films, he bec ame an outstanding stage direc tor.
