A young boy takes his mother's pl ace in a grou p of gemst one-based beings, and must learn to c ontrol his powers. This series is set in th e ficti onal Beach City, whe re ag eless alien wa rrior s, the Crystal Gems, live in an ancie nt beachsid e te mple, protecting the wo rld fro m evil. Th ey project f emale humanoid f orms f rom magical gemstones that are the cor e of t heir bei ng. The Crystal Ge ms are Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl a nd Steven, a youn g half-huma n, h alf-Gem boy who inhe rited his gemstone from his mot her, the Gems' former lead er Rose Quartz. As St even tries to figure o ut his pow ers, he sp ends his days with his human fa ther Greg , his friend Connie, other people in Beach City, or the other Gems, whether to help them save the w orld or jus t to hang out.
